David Hajdu’s NYT Magazine profile of pianist Fred Hersch, that is. I did an “@Home” profile on Fred for JazzTimes some years ago — I don’t have the pdf scanned but I’ll work on that. The photographer was late, so Fred and I sat and talked in his kitchen for quite a while. Since then, every time I’ve seen him he’s made me feel like we’re just picking up where we left off. Truly one of the warmest, realest, most candid and decent human beings I’ve ever encountered in the jazz world. I’ve missed the last few gigs, but can’t wait to hear him duet with trumpeter Ralph Alessi at the Jazz Gallery on February 5th.

[Update: More thoughts on Hersch from A Blog Supreme.]
