Fresh from his sanctimonious vote against health care reform in congress, Dennis Kucinich of Ohio appeared on “Hardball” tonight to rail against President Obama’s impending announcement on troops to Afghanistan. I’m not taking a position in advance of Obama’s address next Tuesday. But I do want to object to Kucinich’s statement (I paraphrase) that “we owe a debt to Afghan society eventually, to rebuild all that we’ve destroyed.”

All that we’ve destroyed?
The congressman might wish to peruse this page and learn something about the extensive development work going on right now in Afghanistan — work that the Taliban and allied insurgents seek to disrupt at every opportunity. Who’s wreaking havoc, and causing the majority of civilian casualties, in Afghanistan? The answer is there for anyone who cares to consider the facts.
