I am so tired of people, like James Wolcott, regurgitating the line that Hillary Clinton offers “specifics” while Obama offers none. Please. Go here to the “Issues” section of Obama’s website and you will find specific after specific on no fewer than 20 relevant policy categories.
Wolcott sniffs: “… [Obama’s] summons to history and call to hope seems to transcend legislative maneuvers and horse-trading; his charisma is on a more ethereal plane, and I don’t look to politics for transcendence and self-certification.”
Yeah, but it’s called campaigning. You’re supposed to inspire people, particularly after eight years of disastrous misrule. You’re supposed to convince this cynical, complacent, unmotivated electorate that getting out of the house to vote actually matters.
And behind the lofty rhetoric of the Obama campaign, there are indeed specifics. Reams of specifics. Read them.
