Avaaz.org is raising awareness and soliciting donations on behalf of victims of the cyclone in Burma. Thousands of lives might have been saved had Burma’s repulsive military government, um, shared the news that a cyclone was coming. This makes the Bush administration’s Katrina response look like a model of caring leadership. The Burmese junta is all crisp efficiency when it comes to mass-murdering the country’s restive population. When it comes to providing emergency relief, not so much. The shame of it is staggering.
