I was tremendously saddened to learn of the pianist’s death in a scuba diving accident on Saturday.
A few years ago, around the time of EST’s first U.S. release, the group did a special industry showcase at Tonic, and Columbia invited a handful of music journalists to a pre-show dinner with Svensson and the band on the Lower East Side. I was one of those journalists, and I recall Svensson as a really nice, casual guy with serious talent. Only the good die young, as they say. Darcy has the roundup.
